The Greatest Discovery

Reynolds Frye brought the message.

John 1:43 The day following Jesus would go forth into
Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto
him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida,
the city of Andrew
and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found
him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth,

the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good
thing come out of Nazareth?
Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him,
and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48
Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto
him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw
thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son
of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto
him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?
thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him,

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the
angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

In verse 45 Philip said “we have found him.” What a
discovery!
Having and knowing Jesus is our prime purpose and our reason to lead
others to him. Go forth and tell as did the disciples. What we have found in
Jesus at an altar of prayer is exciting. Our names are written in the book of
life. No one else can give us the joy and peace we have just because we know
the Lord, the Savior of the world. This is an age of discovery, but the
greatest of the discovery of Jesus Christ.
Jesus loves each of us as much today
as the day he saved us.

Later in Acts 8 we find Philip telling another man about the
Lord. The Bible says “And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying,
Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza,
which is desert.” Philip did as he was told and found an Ethiopian man reading
the scriptures. He had been to Jerusalem

to worship but still didn’t understand. When Philip asked him if he understood,
the response was “How can I, except some man should guide me?”  He asked Philip to help him.

We all have the privilege to worship. We enjoy the blessings
the Lord gives us. We should put our self aside. We cannot do it alone. We need
to show Jesus to the world. They need to see the peace and joy we have. They
need to discover the Lord.

Philip led this man to the Lord by helping him understand
what he was reading. He asked to be baptized. The Bible says Philip said “If
thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I
believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” This man made the greatest
discovery of his life.

Our purpose is to help others make the same discovery. No
one gets to old to find the Lord. We need to get ourselves in tune with Jesus
Christ. Glorify God, tell someone else about him and help them make the
greatest discovery.
