Taking Care of the Household

Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

The strength of any nation is its families.  The strongest institution on earth is the home.  God instituted the family and marriage in the Garden when he made Adam and Eve.  Even after they were put out of the Garden, God blessed them with children.  The definition of family can be anything today.  America started going down when family started going down.  I’m thankful for my family and I know you are yours.  Your family and household are precious.  The natural family is a blessing and strength.  We all know where home is.  Even though the house I was raised in is gone, my home is still around in my brothers and sisters.

Paul reminded the Galatians how they were saved.  There is one gospel and no other.  As born again children of God we are a family. Jesus described the kingdom of God as the Father’s house.  We have received adoption and are fellow members of the household of God.  We have a responsibility to take care of that household.

This church is the sacred house of God, not just a church but the Father’s house.  He told some they had made the house of prayer a den of thieves and was one of the few times Jesus got mad.  As soon as I come onto the parking lot there is a feeling of something special.  I feel like I belong here.  It’s such a nice feeling.  Before I was saved I felt alienation in the church.  I didn’t belong because I had not accepted Jesus as Savior.  The moment I got saved I felt like I belonged.  When we pray, we actually talk to our Father and there is a sense of belonging.  This is dearer than being an American.  All this is not just for me but for my brothers and sisters as well.

Verse 1 says brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.  As part of the household we tend to act like we did with our natural family.  It is our responsibility to help those who have fallen by the wayside.  Consider yourself.  You could be overtaken by sin.  None of us is above sin.  We have good excuses for our faults, but if our brothers and sisters have faults we see no excuse for them.  We are not supposed to beat down.  We are to be helpful.  Don’t speak self-righteously.  Speak in love.  Forgive one another because we need forgiveness ourselves.  Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  I’ve seen people really get on others for something and later see those same people do worse.  The devil wants to break us down.  Let’s not let him.  Live as faultless as we can.  If we slip, ask for forgiveness and go on.  If we see others slip, speak in love and win them back.  Show you care.  Go to bat for each other.

We are responsible for one another and we are to care for each other.  We need to admit we need taken care of.  It goes against our nature to admit that.  We do need each other.  Never turn away a word of encouragement or a prayer.  Think of what our shut-ins miss by not being able to come to church.  In the times I’ve had to miss Sundays seem like an eternity.  We need everyone from the smallest to largest, youngest to oldest.  Be God’s children, brothers and sisters.

There is little love left in the world outside of the people of God.  Light and love are our signs.  When we love and help each other we show it.  If we disagree, do it in love.  Reprove, rebuke and exhort with patience and love.  When we come short our brothers and sisters should be there to encourage us to get back in.  I want someone to help me.  Let’s love each other and be the household God wants.

I have no objection that God is my Father and I’m proud to be your brother in the household.  Let’s take care of each other as God takes care of us all.
