Deuteronomy 32: 45 And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel: 46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.
It is your life. The devil constantly and always has told people that to accept Jesus Christ into our heart and follow him is a wasted vanity. He’ll tell us it doesn’t help; in fact it makes things worse. Never has man been so deceived. The lie is that man is better off not to believe the Bible and an invisible God. With all the talk of other religions and their elevation as true we see that many gods are worshipped. Many worship their own selves, saying a person can enjoy life and have purpose without the imaginations and problems of Christianity as if God is a figment of the imagination, as if he is only the God of the ignorant. I’d like to remind us all that the book of Proverbs tells us that the fool says in his heart there is no God.
I stopped at a book sale the other day. I went to the Christian table and right beside was all sorts of book by Darwin, Voltaire, and Freud. More people were drawn to those than the old Bibles and books on the Christian table. The answers to life’s problems were there but people walked right by it.
Before entering into Canaan, Israel’s Promised Land, God’s last instruction was to put aside the foreign tribes and conquer them. He knew their godless religions would interface with their beliefs and cause problems. That’s what has happened today. So the words here in Deuteronomy are for us. Serving God, following the Bible, believing that Jesus is the one and only Savior of the one and only true and living God are anything but vanity. People will and do believe anything; yet they are empty and vain religions. The world will classify Christianity as just another religion that is okay as long as it accepts the others. That’s a lie! It’s deception. Gullible people believe lies and are deceived. I’m glad to know Jehovah God not Allah or Buddha, or one of the others. I’m glad to have found the one and only Savior. Jesus came to bear witness of that truth. We should be thanking God he brought us out of sin.
The God of the Bible is the only true and unchangeable God. The first truth of the Bible is the Lord our God, he is one and we are to have no other gods before him. Don’t let the devil deceive you into thinking your relationship with God is vain. He may tell you everything seems to be going wrong and ask why God doesn’t show himself. Shame on us! We should not ask why “this” is happening to me. God forgive us for doubting. He proved his truth one time when he sent his son. That’s all the proof we need. Do you have trouble and challenges and think God has failed? Compare it to the times he’s proven himself. Give him credit not blame. It’s enough that society blames Christianity. This nation may get to the point that when people find out we’re Christians they’ll knock us down. It’s better to be knocked down by them and remain standing for God! It’s time to stop asking God why. He has proven himself time and again.
Moses had said a lot but wanted them not to forget. Never doubt. Never believe is it a vain thing because it was their life. It’s still better to be saved and suffer here than to abandon God, the church, and the Bible. We’re all still standing because God has kept us alive. The two spies that didn’t doubt were the only ones of that generation who made it to the Jordan River. The others fell in the wilderness. Moses went to the top of Mount Nebo. From there he could see in every direction and God showed him the land of promise. This was the land sworn to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. No matter how bad the Canaanites were, God was able to make it their Promised Land.
I don’t need anything but faith to call on God. Let’s quit listening to the devil. God is truth. All the rest is in vain. The Word of God will stand forever. Soon the Lord will take us from here and the devil is not invited. The only super hero there will ever been is Jesus Christ, the son of the living God. The church was built upon the rock of Jesus Christ and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. It’s time that God’s people look at how valuable he is and how valuable the things we receive from him are. It’s more than a religion. If we have to class Christianity as a religion, we must say that others were created by man and designed to suit man. The fact that we’re alive today is by God and he’s the only one who has proven himself as the true religion of the Jehovah God of Glory.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself. If you pray and feel it does no good, stop and think. Your heart is still beating. I’ve had good doctors but I know the Great Physician. Until the moment of the rapture God will reach out and Christianity will never be a vain thing. Others may kill this body but they cannot kill the soul. Christianity is not the problem; it is the solution. Religion is the problem. God desires that all have a relationship with him. He made the way of redemption. If you’re not saved bring your religion—whatever it is or is not—to him. He’ll put your life at ease and give you blood-bought salvation. God gave his son so we could have more. Treat him as the wonderful Savior he is. Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. You can’t just try Jesus. You have to trust him. It’s not in vain. It’s worth it all because he gave his all. It’s not vain because it is our life.
